    Project Power

    ★★★½

Project Power is a refreshing take on a genre that seemed to have already done it all. While its ideas aren't groundbreaking, this executes them fairly well and I never felt bored with this. The street level perspective in a world of god-like abilites feels like something I haven't seen a film fully commit to in a while, so it was nice to see it here. It was also great to see an almost instant tangible consequence to all the powers which made this engaging.

    ★★

Mortal Engines was a movie I've been excited about for a while and, in short, it didn't meet my expectations. I also made the unfortunate decision of watching this before having read the book, but maybe my naivete saves me a little bit here. I just didn't feel immersed enough into this world to buy it. The Shape of Water brings light to an unorthodox romance in something that feels so incredibly personal. The concoction of the director's signature monster aesthetic and the basis of a timeless love story results in a film that is a mature fairytale. Magical in one sense yet so dark and relevant in another.

Taking a slight turn off the path of haunting fantasy creatures, Guillermo Del Toro dares to tell a story of…

    The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

    ★★★★½

"All bubble-blowing babies will be beaten senseless by every able-bodied patron in the bar."

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie is everything good about the hit animated show. Bundled into a feature length film, this is essentially an extended episode of the show centering on the extravagant adventures of its titular character. Although not quite a best hits package, because of its underutilization of some favorite characters, this is still the show at its purest.
