It’s not Roeg’s chilling original but speaking as someone who grew up haunted by that 1990 film, I quickly recognized that it wasn’t trying to be and enjoyed it for what it is. As a new adaptation of a Roald Dahl classic I found it to be delightfully campy and a visual feast for the eyes from a production/costume design standpoint. Can definitely see that Guillermo influence.
