"You kids want to help yourself to a can of Purple?"

Perhaps I unfairly overlooked this one as some sort of generic American Pie style sex comedy. Definitely more than that. Thumbs up.

Just a little late to the party here. But hey, "It is never too late to do the right thing." to quote the movie. A suave heroic cat voiced by Antonio Banderas is definitely something that belongs in cinema. Just the way Puss in Boots flings himself through the air effortlessly accompanied by the great score is dare I say, magic.

I'm ready to call this a classic. It's mean, twisted and full of practical effects and blood. I've watched this countless times over the years but strangely never have tried watching the sequels. That'll change now that i'm on Letterboxd. Gotta finish those collections, you know?

According to IMDB scenes including a cameo by OJ Simpson were edited out in the final production. Not gonna lie, hearing stuff like that just makes me so curious.

Robert Downey Jr. spits in the face of Sonny the dog in one scene and gingerly feeds him a Bugle chip in another. I enjoyed both equally.

Really great performances across the board here. Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw play siblings in this and have a chemistry that really gave their relationship an authentic feel. Madeleine really stood out to me though. The movie itself has a suspense that builds with effective scares along the way. Even a few jump scares that worked. Happy it went there a few times with its brutalness and kept the camera on long enough to start making you feel uncomfortable. Really liked seeing this with almost a full house.

Kids mispronouncing words and cursing non-stop isn't inherently funny to me, I guess. There are still some funny moments obviously and the ending is cute. But still an overall miss.

    Molly Gordon though...😍

What a delightful surprise. Led by quite a cheeky robot, Charles Petrescu. Basically I love him and need one. But it's really Brian played by David Earl that steals the show and really makes this whole thing work. So quirky and genuinely funny, you just wish you could be his friend.
