  • Kids

Similar to films such as “The Basketball Diaries” or “We Need to Talk About Kevin”, Larry Clark’s “Kids” is the sort of coming-of-age story that will shake parents to their core. Produced by Gus Van Sant and written by a 19-year-old Harmony Korine, it follows the mishaps of a group of teenagers as they are constantly making bad and dangerous decisions – some that are even difficult to watch unfold – leading them to a life of anarchy and chaos.…

    Two Distant Strangers

Oscar-nominated short that angered me to no end, and not in the way it was intending to. The 32-minute long Netflix original adopts a tired gimmick to highlight the relevant topic of police brutality and racism in the States, but does it in the most superficial, unsubtle, on the nose way possible. From unnecessary foreshadowing and references to shallow dialogue, I occasionally felt like I was watching the parody of a more serious film dealing with these sensitive themes.

  • Nobody

Without reinventing the wheel of the one-man-army subgenre, Bob Odenkirk's "Nobody" still manages to punch an entertaining action flick thanks to its likable lead, self-aware tone, and ridiculously over-the-top fight scenes which peak in the film's closing moments. Despite suffering from a more generic second half that did momentarily test my investment in the movie due to its weak antagonist and lack of inspiration at times, I was overall pleasantly surprised by what it had to offer. I'll definitely be tuning in for a potential sequel.
