Richard Nelson’s review published on Letterboxd:
“I dare say you will find him amiable.”
“It would be most inconvenient since I have sworn to loathe him for all eternity.”
I think I first and last saw this when it came out, when it existed in the shadow of the 1995 BBC miniseries — I found it almost impossible to judge fairly without comparison to Colin Firth et al. Now, viewed with (considerably) more distance, I can appreciate it in its own right as a very well-made and engaging movie. Some people seem inordinately keen to shit on Joe Wright as a director (I’m sure they loved the reaction to Woman in the Window), but I think he does a lot of really good work here.
