  this is the only film I’ve ever seen where a windowboxed dvd frame actually enhanced the experience, giving it the feeling of ancient, forbidden footage. maximalist wuxia style; the punk rock energy of lam nai-choi meets zhang yimou’s kaleidoscopic eyes. no wonder john carpenter looked at this and thought, “damn! I wanna make something like this!”
