Arrival ★★★★

Intelligent, thought-provoking hard-science fiction is always a pleasure to see on film. Aliens arrive on earth, and it's up to Amy Adams to figure out how to communicate with them. The process of learning their language begins to affect her.

Jóhann Jóhannsson's tonal score pairs perfectly with the images, and it is a shame the academy disqualified it for Oscar consideration. His recent death is a real loss. Director Denis Villeneuve has clearly cemented himself as a director to pay attention to. I need to watch his back catalog.
