First reaction is a bit of a lazy one, it makes the similar ARGO look like Hollywood junk thanks to strong direction with a clear vision and a superbly restrained central performance from Gael Garcia Bernal.
As much as I happily admit to being a long time fanboy of Affleck this film highlights just how far he has to go as a director. By generic Hollywood thriller standards he's subtle, compared to the best of the rest of the world he's a bit of a hack.
More than anything after watching No this evening I am left with the desire to dig up Pablo Larrain's older work and wondering if GGB has ever been bad in a movie.
