Sparks ★★½

Not all of the early comic books can be considered classics, not all of them did much more than titillate or lightly entertain, so why do we feel the need to criticise a low budget indie CGI heavy "original" comic book movie because it's not Batman?

Sparks really is the 21st century movie equivalent of those cheap and tawdry comics, it's cheesy and silly and it knows it is. The lousy CGI and cheap looking costumes are perfect choices for the kind of honest down to earth, just wanting to keep you flicking pages, superhero movie that Sparks is, as reflected by the appearance of Clint Howard and the casting of John Dies At The End as the protagonist.
