Tarantino's examination of the promise and abandonment of Hollywood - where grand vision meets grand budget.
First, the good - I love that this is film is constructed as another reimagined Tarantino-style history trip, e.g., Inglourious Basterds. Also, I could watch Tarantino film cars speeding along Ventura Blvd all day. Bravo for turning in another real appreciation of stunt talent. And the final showdown does not disappoint.
Otherwise, I felt like "Once Upon...Hollywood" was underwhelming in the most spectacular, glorious fashion. I have to believe there’s a shorter, better paced, and a more effective film in there - without the predictable voiceover. Undeniable that Tarantino has a complicated relationship with women in his films, and this one continues in that tradition.
No doubt, a rewatch will be in order.
