Dune ★★½

A mostly enjoyable time for what is a hoity prologue to a movie that doesn't exist yet. Honestly my least favourite scenes happened to be every instance Zendaya was featured - a cloying out-of-place New York Girl accent and dogwater dream sequences that look like a TV perfume advert. Loses momentum to insane degrees towards the final hour, which is a shame, because the rest was pretty wonderful. Tired of booming bassy soundscapes in grandiose locales of Nothing, but this got a response out of me ig!
I did find myself missing the Lynch adaptation's character warmth. Villeneuve is all about dry emotionless characters with thousand-yard stares; I liked it in Blade Runner 2049 but not here for some reason idk. Rebecca Ferguson's performance compounds these issues into a single character oh my god.
