Kind of barren of personality and tries to cover for it with shoehorned sassy comedy kid sections that feel extremely by-committee, most of the jokes are outdated as fuck too (tide pod challenge jokes in 2021 REALLY?). The movie kind of had no idea how to make the human characters as fun as the monsters at all, which is kind of stark contrast to how well Kong: Skull Island managed the balance. And daman Mechagodzilla's design was so ugly wtf.
Still, GvK's biggest sin is that the main villain honestly just had no play when the concept was quite cool. An unscrupulous tech CEO, who builds a false god, because he feels mankind (he) should be in charge from his own pride and hubris. Corporate billionaires are the literal personification of the mistaken alpha/gorilla (lol) mindset. Would have loved to explore how he was also responsible for maintaining the system that spreads his agenda, but a movie with hollow earth and fortnite energy bricks can only go so far I guess! It was a nice spectacle but Kong: Skull Island is the goat of style.
