The weakest of Wright's filmography.
Impeccably filmed and edited as per usual, even if his style was a bit subdued this time around. I understand how his swift, fun style would be inappropriate for his most serious film to date.
The story started to get confusing after the first act and I had trouble figuring out what the film was trying to say besides "men are creeps and abuse women." I mean that's barely saying anything at all…it's just saying "this is a thing that happens" without adding any nuance to it. I feel like a female director could've helped in that regard. That being said, I was so surprised to find out he wrote this with a woman, Krysty Wilson-Cairns!
I was so excited when Edgar announced he was doing a horror movie, but after seeing this, I think he should stick with comedies.
