    Despite the predictable story line, this is still a fantastic work of gothic horror art from Del Toro. It knows exactly what it is, which is a slow atmospheric ode to gothic film of the past. There's ghosts, but it's not about ghosts. There's romance, but it's not about romance. What it is about, truly, is the perfect production design and tone.
