DEFINITELY worth a trip to the theater!
It’s not the best musical out there, with some small pacing issues and while they do work to establish a sense of place and the community of Washington heights, some of the songs revolving around side characters, particularly Lin Manuel-Miranda’s ice scraping song, feel out of place and forced. Nevertheless it’s a fun and enthralling picture, throwing aside a driving plot and choosing to develop the characters and their dreams. The music is catchy and the cinematography flashy, with a strong message of pride in community and culture. Thumbs up 👍
