Beau’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Irishman is quite easily Scorsese’s most mature film. It’s an extremely grounded work; none of the violence feels over the top or unnecessary. Every minute of the 3 and a half hour long runtime felt crucial to the story, and I was never bored.
Everybody involved gave it their all. Martin Scorsese, who is already one of the most influential directors and a master behind the camera, does a fantastic job here. Every member of the legendary cast is fantastic; Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci are an unbeatable trio in cinema, and they are phenomenal here.
I had no clue this film would be as emotional as it was. The last act is a total gut-punch, and a perfect way to end this monster of a film.
The Irishman is a force to be reckoned with. It’s easily one of my favorite films of 2019, and it somehow managed to exceed my already high expectations. Watch this on Netflix if you haven’t already, and get ready for a fantastic experience.
