“I dunno what the hell’s in there, but it’s weird and pissed off, whatever it is.”
A genuine horror masterpiece. The Thing is unbelievably effective in being one of the most tense, suspenseful horror films I’ve ever seen. John Carpenter is truly a fantastic horror director, and I haven’t seen nearly enough from him.
What impressed me most about The Thing is it’s effects. Every body and creature looks absolutely astounding; the effects are outstanding for the ‘80s, and they still hold up brilliantly today.
Ennio Morricone’s score is fantastic. It’s completely bone chilling, and sets an absolutely perfect tone for this cold, barren setting.
I’m growing to love John Carpenter as a filmmaker, and this is probably my favorite from him so far, Halloween being a close 2nd. Really surprised I didn’t see this one sooner, because I absolutely adored The Thing.
