When one of your favorite actresses makes her directorial debut with a love letter to your hometown...obviously, a film shot with the sort of spite, care, and heart only someone who grew up there could pull off.
Lady Bird captured everything I love and hate about the charming but overlooked city by the river--raw, subtle, plain, and beautiful details of a place for which I've always had mixed emotions.
What lovely work. I hope she wins an award for it. It has all my votes.
