• A Futile and Stupid Gesture

    A Futile and Stupid Gesture

This is definitely a movie made more powerful by watching feel good, "safe" showbiz biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody or, specifically, 24 Hour Party People (that also features the subject looking back at his life). If you haven't yet, I REALLY don't recommend looking up anything about Doug Kenney before watching this movie.

Having watched it the way I did, I can definitely recommend it. Even though I thought much of the humour was kind of weak and Will Forte can come of as obnoxious in many scenes. It's worth your while.

Having said that, MAN are those wigs bad. Especially on Joel McHale.

  • The Talented Mr. Ripley

    The Talented Mr. Ripley

Full disclosure I watched this movie because it was a major influence on The Room. Really! Check out The Disaster Artist book for more details.

Good stuff overall, I weirdly feel like the first half up to and including the boat scene was better than the second.

  • Rocketman

Now that was both incredibly fun and incredibly honest. A movie that revels in its "movieness" (and its R rating) and makes it feel worthwhile. Loved it.

Taron Egerton got Elton down perfectly, casting for the ages.

Needless to say it was 200 times better than the Queen movie. About as good as Love and Mercy, but in a very different way. The appeal of Brian Wilson's/the Beach Boys' music doesn't really show when you have to rush past it…

I somehow still remember the president rap despite last seeing this about 8 years ago.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

So this movie was the reason I started the MCU project. I love martial arts movies, love Michelle Yeoh and Tony Leung, and I've become a big fan of "Kim's Convenience" so I'm very glad to see Simu Liu make it as a major Hollywood star (on that note - I very much enjoyed the "I'm not Korean"…

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time

Two and a half hours about why Evangelion had to end.

Good creative animation overall, lots of great moments, some obnoxious ones. It seems like half the movie is devoted to squishing down the canon enough to something that's semi clear and won't require future fans to run around and get plot points from out of print PS2 games.

The last half hour which is devoted to the characters themselves is great. Anno finally got to the point, after years…

  • Happily

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

So as I said in my other review, overall I enjoyed this movie, it honestly didn't go in the way I expected it to go, even though I came in knowing it was a dark comedy with plot twists (I first heard about this movie thanks to McHale promoting it on Conan - who said traditional marketing doesn't work!). However, I think the first act was much better than the second and third, and the reason for this is mostly…

  • Happily

Well that was certainly something. Original, Well acted, well shot, could use an extra 15 minutes to really nail what it was going for.

Can't wait to see what else the director will do. I did not post this for a screencapped retweet I swear.

I'll also post a second review with some spoilery musings. But overall - go watch it, it's good.

    Joel Mchale: Live from Pyongyang

Joel did not disappoint, this was extremely funny. If he ever makes any more, I'll watch them too!

My mom is from Winnipeg and the bit about Portage and Main had me rolling on the floor. Why are they so proud of that stupid place anyway?

    Avengers: Age of Ultron

OPERATION SURRENDER TO THE MOUSE OVERLORD FILM ELEVEN: "I am not a monster. I... am.". (My cat: a perfectly timed "Meow!")

The Whedon style is really wearing on me. I just didn't laugh as hard as this movie expected me to laugh at its jokes, and I thought the emotional tone was sacrificed in favour of the jokes - which really sucks considering the previous two MCU movies had done a steady job of that overall.

    Half the time I…
