Maniac Cop

Maniac Cop ★★★½

Maniac Cop Mondayyyyyyyyy. First up Maniac Cop 1. I love this film. Perfect balance of 80s New York grit, great slasher feel and just enough camp. Oh and Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins. Boom!

Written by Larry Cohen and directed by William Lustig this film has all the right ingredients for a gritty yet zany slasher. A man disguised as a police officer is killing off people in New York City. It's up to a rookie cop (Campbell) and an experienced veteran (Atkins) to save the day.

Maniac Cop himself is quite the menacing presence and his back story is pretty well constructed. I love scene in the prison where they show how Maniac Cop came to be - brutal! The film is gory and has great atmosphere. There is also an action feel to this movie as a lot of the stunts are super theatrical and are quite the spectacle to watch. Especially the ending!
