Just smashing. Like a two-hour version of the plane sequence in World War Z. Or at least a 90-minute version since there’s probably a half hour of running time that could have been cut here. But what fun this is! Sure, it’s full of the usual archetypes you get in disaster movies, but the conceit of zombies on a train goes further than you might think, with several intensely claustrophobic, tense scenes. A few niggles throughout, and a few set pieces are let down by shoddy effects, but when this is rattling along at full speed it’s one of the most entertaining and surprising zombie films of the last decade.
