Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones ★★

Second movie in my Star Wars rewatch marathon. This one is a doozy and doesn’t have as cool of moments as The Phantom Menace. The only cool parts of this movie are the chase scene through Coruscant, Obi-Wan vs Jango, and parts of the Geonosis battle. The problem with this movie revolves around Anakin. I don’t blame Hayden for any of them; he’s a talented actor but I believe Lucas’ writing and direction don’t do him any favors. No one could make the “I hate sand” dialogue sound good, not even Daniel Day-Lewis. There’s also Padme and Anakin’s relationship; there’s no chemistry between them and almost everything he says to her is very creepy. I don’t believe this love for second, and it’s supposed to be the thing that pushes him to the dark side and spawns 2 of our future heroes. Just a lot of stuff with the Jedi and the character relationships that doesn’t work so there’s just a lot of missed opportunity here. That’s what happens when George Lucas is given total control.
