I was SO excited for this, Hereditary was one of my favourite films of last year and one of my favourite horror movies of all time, but I am so conflicted with this.
From a technical standpoint this film is a masterpiece, its so well edited, directed, framed and the performances are all brilliant, but I otherwise feel so underwhelmed.
The story itself just lacks any real punch, and there are certain details addressed in the first few minutes which are hardly relevant later on in the plot other than to simply drive characters to certain places, which is a shame because I thought the theme of grief could have been explored to a comparable level as Hereditary.
I will certainly be there in the opening week for Aster's next film, I just wish I connected with this one more.
