Ben Kinney Harris’s review published on Letterboxd:
The hypocrisy in patriarchy. The futility of prohibition. Rule-breaking as a feminist revolution, as a means of survival. A dystopian, grotesque land of sin purporting to be a land of purity.
I really enjoyed this, but feel that the animation added nothing to the film’s searing portrait of modern Tehran. The cast and crew also demonstrate a tremendous deal of mettle bluntly confronting feminist themes, but this bluntness also could have been handled with greater care? Still - a brutal, painful, and important look into a caricaturized dystopian society on the verge of complete moralistic collapse.
