Stranger Than Paradise ★★★★

1984

The road to Cannes 2019.

I adore how Jarmusch is able to extract edge-of-your-seat fascination from boredom, meaning from nothingness. A similar contradiction pronounces itself in his three principal characters, who are obnoxious (with the exception of Eva) yet equally enjoyable to hang out with for 90 minutes.

It might sound strange, but both this and Paterson completely drew me in and set my mind at ease. Jarmsuch's films seem to be somewhat of a cathartic cure for anxiety, a reminder of sorts to take a deep breath and slow down.
