Disney theme park giallo, complete with a scene where our protagonist literally goes door to door uncovering a series of sordid diorama culminating in a man…receiving head???? 😱 Edgar Wright is nowhere near as cineliterate as he thinks he is, his references are broad and superficial, and he’s far too self-conscious to make something genuinely lurid, which material like this demands. For the life of me I can’t understand how or why this was slapped with an 18 certificate. Toothless, prudish and despite its best efforts quite misogynistic. Can’t wait for the inevitable Treehouse of Horror parody that will arrive maybe two years too late. It’ll be called ‘Last Night in D’oh-ho’ and I’ll hate it.
