Showdown: Father

God I really hate that they named this one "Come to daddy"

Also wow a shocking number of my favorite films are missing dads - every film I've given 5 stars to except Dear Zachary and Donny Darko features 0 fathers to any main character and no main character is a father (I guess In Bruges villain has kids but ?). Even expanding to my 4.5 stars there's just a shocking number of movies with a dead, absent, or deadbeat father. Maybe this is part of why I'm so scared to have kids.

Is Nick Offerman sorta detached? Yes. Does he still love, support, and try to help his son? Yes, and more importantly he named a cat Cat Stevens, so the dad humor is really here too.

  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

The notes for this film reportedly contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

An imperfect dad who sorta loses his way at points but is also willing to start a war with the gotdang moon Buddha to keep his adoptive daughter happy

    Meet the Robinsons

    ★★★

So Mr. Robinson is really not in the film in some ways a lot but watching the found family he fostered and nurtures is the only reason this film is even decent

  • Finding Nemo

    Finding Nemo

Marlin is one of the most relatable Pixar characters for me, anxious and distraught without just being a caricature, with such deep love he overcomes his intense anxieties

  • Elf

James Caan can kiss my butt, Papa Elf was a single adoptive father to a very difficult child and still nurtured him incredibly well <3

Hugh Neutron should be everyone's father
