God I really hate that they named this one "Come to daddy"
Also wow a shocking number of my favorite films are missing dads - every film I've given 5 stars to except Dear Zachary and Donny Darko features 0 fathers to any main character and no main character is a father (I guess In Bruges villain has kids but ?). Even expanding to my 4.5 stars there's just a shocking number of movies with a dead, absent, or deadbeat father. Maybe this is part of why I'm so scared to have kids.
Is Nick Offerman sorta detached? Yes. Does he still love, support, and try to help his son? Yes, and more importantly he named a cat Cat Stevens, so the dad humor is really here too.

I'm sure Andrew would have been an amazing father but David is one of the best patriarchs of any film and also IS A REAL HUMAN
So Mr. Robinson is really not in the film in some ways a lot but watching the found family he fostered and nurtures is the only reason this film is even decent
Marlin is one of the most relatable Pixar characters for me, anxious and distraught without just being a caricature, with such deep love he overcomes his intense anxieties
Hugh Neutron should be everyone's father
Williams is objectively a pretty bad father but has such deep love for his kids that my headcanon is he sought parenting lessons and therapy post-film and is now effectively coparenting

If Mary Sue was a father it's not far off George but Jimmy Stewart really sells it
