1980s London was a truly crummy-looking place and this film is stuffed with weirdos and nobodies who spend all their time in boozers that stink of piss, warm beer and Bensons. Even Hoskins' boat looks crappy. The 80s synth score takes me right back to the TV of my yoof. Good movie with some arresting images (the abbatoir, bombs in cages, blood-soaked Bob going nuts on the dock etc)

An inventive and manic couple of hours. Exhaustion set in too soon for me so it felt punishingly long, and spent too much time making sure you had all the feels about every damn thing in the movie, while also throwing in a couple of dildo/buttplug gags that belong in South Park. The Everything Bagel made me groan. It's an alienatingly American movie in that way. The cast here were excellent across the board, and I'm really happy they all got something to sink their teeth into. Left me cold, though 🤷‍♂️

Unfairly (?) tarred with the Dad Movie brush, it's just a brilliant film. Acres of character and incident, every detail a labour of love, a definitive Crowe performance. Peter Fucking Weir, man.
