A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors ★★★

Second or third complete viewing, first in more than a decade. Probably the most fun of the NIGHTMARE films prior to NEW NIGHTMARE The deathmares are linked to some flaw within the character, which is fun but also makes the demises more predictable once you recognize the patterns and Freddy is beginning his descent into Benny Youngman here which he completes in Part 4, if my memory is correct. Not as well directed as the first two films, especially in the dreamland which is not as surreal or atmospheric as in prior installments but the hook to the story is pretty catchy in a high concept way that feels pretty fullfilling. Some very nifty practical effects.
