I’m really invested when films try to tackle teenagers and high-school in such a classy way, never downplaying the situation and this film does that successfully. Dreamlike tale that explores adolescence in a very unlikely way, never talks down to the audience, going so far as to treat the mysterious nature of one being a teen align well with the themes and plot of the film. Atmospheric, haunting, story that will no doubt linger in my mind for a long time.
I actually enjoyed it, once you realize you’re not the target demographic for this film it can be fun. I just wanted to see Jim Carrey go apeshit and that’s it, also got what I wanted. A serviceable plot that has already been done by other better movies, but there’s no denying this is very entertaining. Though sadly I don’t think it’s exactly rewatchable, maybe if my little cousin wants to? But like I said, I’m not target demographic.
Ad Astra? More like... damn this really is one of the best movies of the year.
I was waiting for this film for a long time, Brad Pitt in space!? Sign me up! But I never knew it would hit me so hard, it reminded me a lot of what I loved about Interstellar. That is basically a family drama in the midst of Space travel, and what is better to write and tell stories about if not regarding “the human heart in conflict with itself”?
