I’m The Only Juan’s review published on Letterboxd:
“No, please don't kill me, Mr. Ghostface, I wanna be in the sequel!”
My favorite Slasher/Horror (aside from Halloween 1978) it re-invented the genre and put it in an amazing spot. After this a lot of companies wanted their “self-aware” horror flicks. And all that is thanks to Wes Craven (May he Rest In Peace) and Kevin Williamson! Amazing cast from top-to-bottom, Neve Campbell will always be Sidney to me, the killers are so iconic that in the reveal I always repeat what they say, so funny yet so threatening. And I love the fact that Drew Barrymore is in it, and those the most iconic phone call in Horror history, she really does her job well.
It doesn’t get to overwhelming with it’s references (like Scary Movie), it does the proper dosage with Iconic Characters, Comedy sprinkled throughout, actual great performances in a Slasher flick and most of all a great script executed by one of the best horror directors.
