Bethany’s review published on Letterboxd:
it sounds odd to say but there were scenes in this film that I truly felt like I was swimming in—like I got lost in this stunning piece of art. Céline Sciamma knows how to perfectly capture the female gaze and it's something I really crave more of in the films i choose to watch; Noémie Merland and Adèle Haenel have some of the most swoon-worthy and effortless chemistry I've ever seen, and the only thing I can think to compare it to is the ocean that takes over the island in Brittany—vast, turbulent, and welcoming yet mysterious.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is one of the most important and beautiful films of 2019, and one that I treasure most this year. please try to see it if you can :-)
