Beth’s review published on Letterboxd:
I don’t know if this comedy technique has a specific name. When you just keep doubling down on a bit until it becomes almost uncomfortable, and then it’s hilarious? I can just picture Melissa McCarthy asking her husband director Ben Falcone if he really wanted her to do that Steve Urkel impersonation like 4 times. And him being like “Yes! Do it!! Just keep saying “Did I do that?” until Beth in Vermont laughs so hard she literally cries. And then right after, do an impression of Jodie Foster from the 1995 movie Nell.”
Anyway this movie was uneven but I laughed til I cried and that’s what a comedy is for, so 3.5 stars.
