Parasite ★★★★½

Some of this is a little too thuddingly didactic for my taste, but watching all of Bong Joon-ho’s previous films in preparation was a good primer, since he’s often a little too thuddingly didactic anyway. Doesn’t matter. Parasite moves with ferocity and vigor and never lets up. Clean, sharp, and in top-tier Bong fashion, the tone ricochets from hilarious to disturbing with dizzying velocity. It’s just a supremely great time at the movies—our audience clapped not only at the end, but at the Act One blackout, and for once I was compelled to join in. We’ll talk more in January when the spoiler-phobia settles. In the meantime: BONGHIVE bitch, buzz buzz.
