Terrific cast, great soundtrack, jokes that land, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and there are a lot of attractive people kicking ass creatively. This was a hell of a lot of fun, which is *exactly* what these DCEU movies need more of. And it's not like this steers clear of the all the murky grimdark of the early entries in that shared universe... it barrels headlong into it, in fact. The big difference, though, is that it isn't cynical... there's…
There's a really fun 90 minute globehopping quest adventure movie in here, but unfortunately you have to make it through about an hour of a boring origins one to get to that, and it actually took me a couple of tries to manage that. Glad that I finally did because I like Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard's Mera is a great and needed counterbalance (ridiculous wig and all) to his broseph vibe, and you also get the Green Goblin and He-Man and Dr. Chase Meridien kicking around and chewing scenery. That's a good time.
It's not a perfect movie - it meanders a bit and there's a subplot or two that don't really go anywhere - but it's a fun, warm, goodhearted one; a movie with likable actors acting likably, and one that pressed all the buttons in the dad part of my brain in the best ways. And that title song is catchy AF. All the music is good, but that one's especially excellent.
