I like obscure Japanese films, 80's British Post-Punk, and communism.
Top 4 are most recent 5 stars.
Reminded me of a John Steinbeck novel in its portrayal of poverty and human beings and their incessant urge to go on.
Definitely over-hated. It was okay, I liked the songs, yeah Ben platt is probably too old but then so is the whole cast of Grease? Story is a tough one, reallllly have to sympathise with him to approve or even just understand the bad decisions he makes, but I think you can pretty much allow it. It's pretty grim and depressing subject matter so the few minutes of humour throughout the film are somewhat of a relief and an anomaly.…
Hahaha what! 4 stars! What was I thinking!
This film is unbelievable. I haven't seen the representation of a characters state of mind by direction and music done so well since maybe Taxi Driver?
Oh and Adam Sandler is phenomenal! His anxiety-filled performance is insanely relatable, the little nuances like the lies he creates so he doesn't have to have conversation, the little times he beats himself up for doing stupid shit "well bye-bye then, you stupid motherfucker". This film is incredibly awkward as it is beautiful, heart breaking as it is heart warming. A new favourite.
