It's always nice to go in to a film not really knowing what to expect. Love is Strange is a gentle, funny, and wonderful little film about a couple and the challenges that they face. Played strongly by John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, it's a change for some great actors to do some great work. The whole cast is great and the chemistry is just right for the extended family and friends. Shot in a casual, naturalistic style and featuring some of the best editing of the year, it tells the story with confidence in an episodic way that doesn't rely on tons of exposition or titles on the screen to explain where and when we are. It's rare for a film to rely on the intelligence of the audience and Love is Strange has a compelling and deeply human story that slowly emerges through a series of great scenes. It's one of the best films of the year and I really hope that more people get to see it.
