When Groundhog Day begins, there isn't a ton to love. The film's humor, or at least what the film tricks us into thinking will be it's humor, belongs to the 80s: awkward cuts to facial reactions to physical gags, obnoxious sound effects, and questionable gender politics of the main characters. And those main characters are unlovable, Bill Murray included. They're petty and have plenty of eye-rolls.
