Rio, Zona Norte ★★★★

An overwhelming drama about how samba is a defiantly happiness against the suffering we have to deal with in life. Grande Otelo's smile is not only miraculous, but it's a miracle that he actually is capable of such smile (when Angela Maria joins him mid song is pure unmatched beauty). Espírito is much more than a person -- he really is Spirit, the substance of carnaval, music coming to him as if he was a radio syntonizing what was already around him. He survives as songs, the melody preserved by those who danced to them so many times.
