Blain LaMotta’s review published on Letterboxd:
David Cronenberg's subversive cult classic continues his fascination of the connection between mind and body, which in turn feeds into the idea of what constitutes the proverbial "self." His clinical, sparse filmmaking style is on full display here and he matches it up brilliantly with some genuinely disturbing insights. The body horror is also well-realized, and the film contains some of his most iconic sequences. The detached approach will frustrate some, but if you are looking for something intellectually stimulating that can still deliver B-movie thrills, with a side helping of conspiracy, Cronie's got you covered. One of my personal favorites.
NOTE: The Criterion blu-ray package is rather awesome and worth the money. Beautiful remaster.
