2018 Superhero Rewatch: In which I return to superhero movies I've seen before to see how time has treated them.
A marked improvement over the first film, X2 loses most of the hokey dialogue and gives us stronger world-building and character development. The introduction of Nightcrawler and expanded role for Iceman are both welcome, and having the heroes forced to work alongside Magneto adds a great new element to the franchise.
The weakest point is a holdover from the first movie: the Logan/Jean/Scott love triangle. Again, Wolverine's advances are creepy and inappropriate, and his disdain for Cyclops is completely unfounded. Yeah, I know Singer was trying to recreate the relationship from the comics, but it just doesn't come off here at all.
Still the best film of the "original trilogy."
