Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★

There’s one major criticism I have about this movie; it’s that Spider-Man is portrayed as a likable character when he is clearly just a menace!

As an MCU movie, Far From Home is second only to Homecoming for me. As a comic read, the MCU doesn’t do it for me, I’m always left disappointed because they don’t or won’t follow the comics and they’re all formulaic; they’re afraid to take risks. I don’t mind the Spider-Man movies though, at least they’re not overly serious like the other ones. Even these as flawed though, as a movie overall Far From Home isn’t that good. The first half of the movie felt like a Disney Channel original; like Johnny Tsunami or Brink, which honestly wasn’t a big deal to me, but it did feel a little stale. Some of the visual effects were really cool, and sometimes I thought I was watching someone play Spider-Man on PS4. Mysterio was interesting, I think it worked well. It felt like Gyllenhaal was doing a lot better job at acting than anyone else in this movie and it would throw me off at times. It was nice to see a comic book villain done well, I’ll give Far From Home credit for that one.

Seriously though, how funny is it that after all of these MCU movies, one of the most exciting aspects is bringing back a character who was in the nearly flawless Spider-Man trilogy? They should just bring back Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell and do a direct sequel to Spider-Man 3.
