Blankments’s review published on Letterboxd:
Annabelle: Creation is a fantastic comedy. Nearly every attempt at a scare just made me laugh uproariously. Unfortunately, I don't believe this is Sandberg's intent, and honestly, the film is full of cliches and dull direction that I can't really even give him credit for the accidental comedy. It's generic and makes you wonder why bother making these movies without Wan, but then you see it was #1 at the box office last weekend, and it all makes sense. Also, making The Conjuring a cinematic universe is obnoxious and all the over-tie-ins make a world that seems huge in the two mainline films feel so small. Annabelle: Creation is a dull period horror movie that feels like a ripoff of what it's spun off from, rather than a clever evolution of what it means to be. Very bad.
(Sorry for the odd review I'm really tired)
