Blankments’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Babadook features some strong performances and excellent atmosphere, especially during the first half of the film. It’s never particularly scary or unsettling, but as a look at the horrors of domestic life, it’s quite powerful in its cringe comedy elements. However, once the film leans more into horror tropes, it loses its way, feeling like a much lesser version of a film we’ve seen several times before. The Babadook might amuse for a part of its runtime, but by the end, it’ll be one bedtime story you would’ve been glad to leave on the shelf thanks to its reliance on tropes and a confused message.
