Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man: Homecoming ★★★★½

Thinking back on this film, sometimes it can be hard to put a finger on why it’s actually that good. The whole thing tends to blur together and it’s easy to think of it as another generic superhero movie.

But when you’re actually watching Spider-Man: Homecoming, it’s an absolute joy through and through. Even on a 5th viewing, it was loads of fun and one of my favorite MCU movies to date. Tom Holland’s energy is infectious - he’s the best Spidey we’ve ever had - and Keaton’s vulture is one of the most well-written Marvel villains so far. The twist with Vulture’s identity (you know the one I mean) is easily one of the best twists in superhero history, too. What a way to make things interesting!

It’s just the greatest. The film captures high-school life and teenagers to a T, and while many teenager movies would preach a message of “fight the power! Rebel against authority!” This one actually teaches its audience that sometimes authority knows best and teenagers shouldn’t be so reckless. Which is pretty refreshing.
