Kudos for making this film sound like a scifi-horror from the title. Too bad it was another YA novel-driven Hunger Games wannabe.

  • The Witch

    The Witch

At the risk of being too harsh, I felt the film was too slow and it's moments of suspense led to nothing. It didn't feel scary at all but perhaps you have to be superstitious. Regardless, the cinematography and score were wonderful.

  • Big Eyes

    Big Eyes

Someone else described this as 'safe' and that definitely reflects the tone of this film. It's such an interesting story but it could have incorporated more interesting visual storytelling - surprising it wasn't more visually delicious since it was directed by Burton.

    I can't.

    Kingsman: The Secret Service

It was all going so well till the end. Not a good 'joke' (?) to end on, to say it was disappointing is an understatement considering it had been really good-spirited until that point.

    John Dies at the End

    I need to rewatch this.

  • RoboCop

This film has had a bad wrap because you can't help but compare it to the original. There are plenty of good things about this remake but the problem will always be - the remake has to be 200% better otherwise it will fail drastically. This isn't, it's got a great cast and the effects are polished but it isn't the original.

    I, Frankenstein

Oh Eckhart, this is quite disappointing. More disappointing, Nighy! Why, why oh why. I mean, at least Nighy is acting in this piece of garbage. Not that it was worth his trouble.

Honestly, I do try to enjoy everything I watch and see the good in it. But this... this is pretty bad. Really bad.

  • The Family Man

    The Family Man

The same as every other 'alternate reality'/ 'sliding doors' film ever. Like ever. But worse because it's not even executed in an interesting or innovative way.

  • Tusk

Look, I didn't actually find this 'scary' so much as super creepy. Oh god, just keep away if you're easily spooked. Not for the faint hearted and to be honest, isn't really that interesting apart from the creepy central premise.

  • The Double

    The Double

What's really interesting about this is how similar it is to Submarine stylistically. Completely different tone, different story, different themes but a really similar aesthetic - darker but its still got that clear Ayoade fingerprint. Which is actually a lovely surprise, he really has a good instinct when it comes to directing. Really enjoyable and interesting film with a well executed, interesting plot.

  • Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Guess they used up all the good Sin City novels in the first movie. I still enjoyed this but it wasn't as well put together as the first one, it didn't have the momentum and lingered too long on one story which I didn't find that interesting.
