Technically amazing but mid war story, Oscars got this one right

5 stars for Brendan Fraser and Hong Chau's performances, 1 star for the plot. Darren Aronofsky needs to move beyond "freshman taking bong rips" when it comes to what his movies mean.

It's funny how much better Judd Hirsch and Seth Rogen are at playing Jews than Michelle Williams and Paul Dano. If you didn't grow up in a yelling-based culture you can't pull it off (unless you're Will Ferrell in The Shrink Next Door). Anyway, it still wins the Oscar for that last scene.

Listen man, you didn't come here for Goodfellas, you didn't come here for The Departed, you came here so you could see all your pals, played by younger actors with a bunch of prosthetics on, yuk it up in the '60s. And that's what you're gonna get.
