I drove home again. I hate driving, but I need to do it in order to go places. Every time I drive I am terrified that I might hit another car. I’m not scared if I’ll be hurt, I’m afraid another car may be damaged, even though it hasn’t happened yet. I’m not sure why I have this anxiety, but it’s something that bothers me greatly. Beau’s world is a lot like how I feel when I am tense. Everything…

Extraordinary stuff. Everything leading up to the midpoint reveal is really terrific filmmaking. I knew where it was going, but that’s only a result of this being so influential, but the sense of paranoia leading up to that point is what sold it all for me. The second half delves a lot more into the philosophical notion of what the reveal entails, which I found to be really ahead of its time. I’ve seen these conversations before in later works,…

The bit here is funny but it wears thin pretty fast. I like what Kline and Keanu are doing here though.

I don’t think that the dramatic portions of the film work narratively, I understand their place in the film, but they didn’t really land for me. I think cutting that portion of the film down would improve the film tremendously. Despite this, Wright is a pretty terrific here. It is fantastic…

It’s cute. There are a few problems with the third act, and the reveal didn’t work for me, but the animation and rest of the plot is fantastic. The movie is very funny and has a lot of heart. The voice work was well done. I liked the mix of 2D and 3D animation, both sides of the film looked good respectively. It’s a crowd pleaser, and is certainly hard not to enjoy. It’s not my favorite film from Hosoda but it’s a solid entry in his filmography. I recommend this one, hoping it gets some awards buzz for animated.
