Barney Poole’s review published on Letterboxd:
Before watching this film the only experience I had of it was other people saying it’s the film that people watch to feel ‘edgy’ of ‘dark’ and I can see why people say that.
However I though that this film was actually very good and had some very good points to make. I enjoyed watching a coming of age type film we’re the main character was actually complex more then just I have bad grades or I don’t go to parties.
The acting from Jake Gyllenhaal was very strong and really added to the story.
The idea that the story presented for me was the relationship between fear and love, this was something good to base around and was felt with well throughout however I felt there was some other ways it could be delt with to make the story flow more.
Overall a good film with some really good cinematography to it.
