    Bill Frisell: A Portrait


    Bill Frisell reminds me of David Lynch. A lot of his work is too "out there" for my brain to comprehend, but I still admire him as an artist. And those recordings of Frisell's that I do get (most notably, Good Dog, Happy Man) are recordings I appreciate more with repeated listenings. This documentary is a great profile of Frisell, who seems genuinely humble despite his fame.

    Ah, for the good old days, when cars were American-made behemoths and bank robbers hired armed henchmen instead of buying U.S. senators. Beautifully filmed, the city of Boston never looked lovelier. I just don't feel there was genuine chemistry between McQueen and Dunaway, as much as I like both of them. The theme song grated on my ears. It may be blasphemous, but I prefer the Brosnan/Russo remake.
